Star City, also known in earlier times as Fort Plymouth and Starling City, is a bustling tech capital in northern California. It has long been protected by the Emerald Archer, Green Arrow.

History

Early History

Colonel Jeb Star founded the territory of Fort Plymouth in the year 1797. In the early half of the 19th century, Fort Plymouth grew into a prosperous trading community luring prospectors all the way from Canada to ply their trades. With the establishment of the continental railroad system in the 1860s, Fort Plymouth developed into a thriving cattle town with large ranches, slaughterhouses, and stockyards.

1897 was the year of the "Great Fire". It earned this appellation when a stockyard smokehouse was set ablaze, burning most of Fort Plymouth to the ground. Developers and architects rebuilt the city into a living symbol of modernism and named it after it's founding father, Jeb Star.[citation needed]

Home of Green Arrow

In the modern era, Star City has become known as the base of operations of the Emerald Archer, Green Arrow. As Green Arrow, Oliver Queen worked out of Star City for many years, struggling to disable a network of corrupt corporate bureaucrats. He initially worked alongside his teen partner, Speedy, and again later with his paramour, Black Canary. After losing his company and home, Ollie left Star City with his friend, Hal Jordan, to travel across the country and explores the American heartland. He later relocated for an extended period of time to Seattle, Washington, until ultimately returning home to Star City after his death-cum-resurrection.

Notable Events

Demonic Dome

The first city-wide disaster to take place in modern history begun when philanthropist and amateur occultist Albert Davis cast a dark spell that encased the city in a bubble made of an impenetrable dark magic. All electrical, mechanical, or otherwise technological items stopped working, leaving the city in darkness and incapable of communication with the outside world. Any crime was swiftly stopped by demonic entities set upon them to bring "peace" through fatal means. Luckily these demons could be harmed and slowed by old weapons, such as bows, arrows, and swords.

The neighborhoods erupted into chaos, and Green Arrow (along with his new partners, Connor Hawke and ward Mia Dearden) managed to unite the criminal underworld and the embittered Star City police department in a coordinated effort to stop the demons. In the end, it was Mia Dearden who saved the city, by firing a fatal shot into Albert Davis' chest. With Davis' death, all of his mystical effects reversed themselves, and the demons returned to their native dimension. The city was then placed under Martial Law until repairs were finished and order was restored.

The Amsterdam Disaster

Around a year later, Star City became the setting for a game of cat and mouse between Green Arrow and the archer known as Merlyn. Merlyn himself was merely the pawn of latter day Green Arrow foe, Dr. Arthur Light. The feud resulted in Merlyn and Light setting off multiple bombs across the city, reducing a large amount of buildings to rubble. The destruction killed thousands, injuring hundereds of thousands more, and left 38% of the population homeless. The chain of explosions started at the corner of Amsterdam Avenue, leading this event to become known as the Amsterdam Disaster.

Six months after the devastation, a wall was built around several surviving and destroyed neighborhoods, cutting the midtown district off from the more densely populated ghettos. This effectively quarantined a large population of the more impoverished citizens of Star City. This isolated area would soon become commonly known as The Glades. Another six months after that, Oliver Queen recuperated and returned to Star City, becoming the city's mayor with a promise to tear down the wall brick by brick.

Star City existed at this point as a volatile demilitarized zone. When not fulfilling his duties in public office, Oliver Queen continued to function in the guise of Green Arrow, and forged an uneasy alliance with his adversary, Brick, in an effort to save his beloved city from ruination. This alliance was broken when Red Hood appeared in the city and teamed up with Brick to target Green Arrow, Batman, and Speedy.

After being exposed for bankrolling The Outsiders Oliver officially resigned as mayor, transferring the role to Frederick Tuckman. Then, with the help of a compound created by Batman, Team Arrow destroyed the wall seperating the city.

Prometheus' Attack

 Main article: Cry For Justice

Over a year after the city had settled, Prometheus decided to take revenge on the Justice League by targeting each major city they operate in. The League manages to save most of the cities, with Star City as an exception. The city is devastated by Prometheus' bomb, triggered by The Electrocutioner. Ninety thousand people are killed, with the entire centre of the city reduced to rubble, largely churches, schools, hospitals, and City Hall. After killing Prometheus and bringing The Electrocutioner into custody, Oliver is arrested and exiled from Star City by order of a judge.

The Forest

Forest

New life grows from the rubble

Oddly, soon after Prometheus' attack, a large forest mysteriously appeared where the rubble once lay, taking the shape of a large star. Green Arrow continued to operate within the city despite his exile, laying low in the forest when not actively helping people. The forest would occasionally assist Green Arrow, who witnessed dying and regrowing repeatedly as if alive. No abilities or powers were able to be used within the forest, isolating anyone who enters from the outside world.

Amid this, Isabel Rochev took over Queen Industries, installing a private security force, known as the Royal Guard, in place of a national guard for the city.

The forest was grown using the power of the White Lantern, though corrupted by Black Lantern's force. As the the forest starts to grow and expand, it's magical nature brings people from across the world to study it. The miltiary, media, and scientific personel, such as Doctor Mid-Nite and Mister Terrific all apear to study this phenomenon. LexCorp and Poison Ivy also take notice and observe the flora. When Etrigan is loose within the forest, the darker side of the trees appear, attacking Green Arrow and allies to protect the demon.

Nonetheless, Ollie fights to save the forest from itself, and in return the forest casts a barrier of White Lantern energy around itself. This protects everyone inside, but condemns those outside to fall prey to Black Lantern Swamp Thing. When Swamp Thing is defeated, the forest contracts to it's original size, living peacefully once again with the city surrounding it.
